Oor Willie shines at the Shire; Doc does a Van de Velde

There was only a small (but elite?) turnout at the tough Shire course where the greens were fast and fair. Scoring on the other hand was slow and very unfair as the Purple mini-horde progressed around the course in a zig zag fashion. However by the end of the enjoyable torture (Ed - Keep your private pleasures private please) there was only one winner (and only  one semi decent score). Step up Capt Will Smith for his first tour win of the season. Will shot 28pts and led the 2nd place person Nigel Thompson by 5 shots. Nigel won on count back from 3rd place Greg.

Ben Chadwick won NP and LD, Nigel won LD and nobody won NP2.

Pat Carr had a notable day winning tour money for 6th place, £20 for the money hole and Magni for finishing last! Still 3rd place at the Super Titans shows his real potential and class.

Newcomer James Mansfield hit a very creditable 26pts to win the guest prize from Gary Toal. Well it was only a virtual prize as no-one had brought the Titans Prize balls!

We never doubted you Pete
A key moment in Man City's premiership season was when  Vincent Kompany lined up to strike a 30yd shot into the top corner vs Leicester. Many of his fellow players and his manager were shouting "don't shoot" given how poor his scoring record was. Of course he scored a wonder goal and City went on to win the Premiership Title.  So when Pete "Van de Velde" Doherty hit his tee shot into the water and he said he was going to play the submerged ball, his playing partners all thought about shouting  - "don't do it".  However given everyone was struggling and thinking about the spectre of Magni - they kept quiet. Pete declared he was going to play it like a bunker shot. What a result - it sailed out - shot of the day. Well played. Ulsterman Pete went on to secure 4th place. Fellow Ulsterman McErlean (GMac2) battled through a succession of shanked 6 irons to get 3rd place whilst in Canada GMac1 sunk a monster putt to the 18th to secure his place at the Open at his home club of Portrush and Rory McIlroy won the Canadian Open with a round containing ten 3's and a 2!  A great day for the Ulstermen. But hold on - one famous Ulsterman missed out on sporting glory. Reports are trickling in that VP was seen in the Richmond area in tears at the thought of missing out on the sporting glories.

A magnificent 3rd place at the Super Titans but the presence of Magni indicates that it was a less than perfect display at the Shire. However there was at least one good shot to win the Money Hole. Well done Pat.

Guest Gary dumped his first shot at the fearsome 1st hole into the drink, dropped a new ball - and did it again!

As the waves subside what do you think he was feeling? We have all been there. Keep going Gary.
