The first three club competition of the Par 3 Winter Tour made for interesting scores as the variable wind took its toll - ie the scores were somewhat variable!

It was a tough day for the Ladies at Merrist Wood as the combination of damp conditions and tough Par 4's meant that scores were low. How low cannot be revealed as "the management" decided that they could not be released. A subsequent Freedom of Information request has been received by the Titans Records Manager but apparently the scorecards were accidentally destroyed in a freak fire at Titans Towers. What can be released is that Fay seemed astonished to come in third, Rita was delirious with her second place and Jenny was almost disbelieving to hear that she had won the Ray Kalnins day. Well done. And in a two horse race to be the 2014 Ladies champion, Nina cantered away from Annabelle in the closing straight. Congratulations Nina on a great year.
Neil Cannon rounded up a fantastic year with the Titans with a well deserved finale to his dominating season of golf. Gone were the fluorescent shorts, but his 36 points made him shine brightly in the season finale at Merrist Wood. Not only that but his astonishing years total of £5.8m made him the 2014 champion. And he won the NP2 prize! Mr Greed is dead, Long live Mr Greed! Meanwhile arch rival Alan Lee tried to work out where it had all gone wrong. His years winnings of €4.43 million put him in a clear second place in the champions tour 2014 and all that he got was a measly Golf Ball and a limp handshake from the Prez. He took some comfort from winning the long drive (1-17). Tod finished off the year with a fine second place but it was the additional £100k for nearest the pin that moved him into the top 5 for the year just edging out Greg. Phil Schick ended up third on the day and also won long drive (18+). Keith was in fourth and Greg was fifth. The Titans ever grumpy veteren moaned about having two one pointers, but of course forgot about the other 42 points accumulated on a tricky Wycombe Heights course. Prez also had trouble with counting as his summary of the days play went along the lines of - twelve titans were in the money which left three Titans empty handed. Shame there were seventeen playing!! In the race for Merrist Wood, Neil Cannon marginally increased his lead over a lack lustre VP. But it is still up for grabs. In second place was Martin (almost a winner) Griffiths and in third place was the resurgent Greg McErlean. Tod Lockard made some amends for a disappointing Ryder Cup thrashing for the US team by claiming 4th place for team USA, and returning Matt Bassano should obviously take a year off again if it means that he will again claim 5th place and Long Drive (18+). Neil Cannon took a creditable 6th place and Long Drive (0-17) but VP was annoyed not just with losing 230,000 dollars to his main rival, but also by his adversary drawing goatee admiration from the Shadowy presence of the Prez.
Shot of the day went to ex Beach Boy Andre McLaughlin who thinned his second to the 16th and the 100mph rocket hit the pin and dropped down to win NP2 for Andre! After stepping outside of the "Shadow", Paul T summed up his year as captain and promised great things for the winner at Merrist Wood. Shame that Paul misses out on this one but his colleagues thank him for a great year. |
