Summer has returned . . .

. . . to celebrate, two very happy winners with Best Gross scores as well and, for Graham, the NP on the ninth (only person to hit the green!).

Perhaps the smiles are because both are slowly getting nearer to the top spots - beware Fay and Kam, there are still five weeks to go!

It was a glorious day but to many a surprise. Perhaps reflected in the high scores (7 out of 11 of 40+!) and few birdies (only 2).

Despite this near perfect tee shot on the 5th (see below), it still wasn't enough for Alex to claim first place (did he clear his pitch mark?)

Nick receives trophy from David Keane who was playing his last match before leaving for sunnier shores.
Nick Bell is already cashing in on the fame of winning the prestigious Titans Presidents Cup. The Prez predicted a lifetime of shop openings and Ding Dongs bell was soon ringing (oh err missus) with a string of amazing offers.
  • Cutting the ribbon at the new Doncaster Eurostretcher shop
  • Being invited onto the Great British Menu - the perfect Titans Bacon Roll is rumoured to be in design.
  • Being the face of Trump Golf UK.

But what would the golfers teeing off on the 16th have thought about the standard of Titans golf as Nick shanked his approach shot to 18 onto their tee? Probably not what his fellow Titans were thinking- "Is he trying to avoid winning?" Or "Nicks suffering from a bad dose of Philschickitis"!
Picture
Greg happy to win anything (NP2). David not so impressed!
Despite those 18th hole shenanigans Nick played a beautiful round (34 pts) and won on countback from Oor Willie whose own ribbon cutting career has been in decline lately. The next three all shot 33 points with the ranking being Paul T, Sam D and Graham N.

Ding Dong also won NP and the money hole. Greg M just held off compatriot Lee to win NP2 and Sam & Graham won the LD Prizes.

Sam D generously sponsored the special prize on the 13th and not so generously won it himself!!  However his generous spirit returned when the first ever Titans Whisky Rollover opportunity was announced!

Super Titan Slam Dunk looks suitably proud.
And what about the presidential assessment of the Sutton Green bacon baps? "They personally hand out the bacon baps. A soft lightly dusted bap filled with two well cooked quality rashers. 6/10"

And the Titans weren't short on food as Mr Chips Keane bought chips for everyone as a parting gift.  Thanks Keano - Make sure you pack those famous pyjamas.

Mako and Kam clean sweep

Finally a Lady has made a golf ball 'stick' on the 9th at Dukes. Many have tried and come short or shot the green but Mako Lutyens' return to the `Par 3 saw a soaring shot land and hold for her to claim the two points. That on top of the five for winning.

Not to be outdone the 'man of the moment' seized his opportunity. Five points is never enough for Kam. Seeing Mako take all seven, he was not to be outdone and bagged the NP as well as winning Saturday's competition - further consolidating his overall lead on the Supper Tour

Big smiles all round except for the other eleven playing!

We also welcomed a new guest and hope that Melvyn Altshuler will become a regular Saturday morning Titan.

. . .applications for the new leaderboard (four legs only) will be accepted for the Winter season. Adele couldn't make it around Dukes on Saturday but made sure her dog chased everyone round in a new course record for fast play!

Despite that Doreen and Chris made hay with Gross rounds of 36 and 29 leaving the rest of the field trailing. Kam didn't even make it onto the scoresheet - after some corrections to the score (I know subtraction is such a difficult art!!!!!!)

Chris deserved his win with two birdies in a row (7th & 8th). Although there was no eagle to follow top as per the last time he managed two on the trot.

Doreen managed to put both Fay and Rita in their place on both Gross and Nett scores.

Until next week folks . . .

TIM OWEN – RIP
1950 - 2016

Many of you will have played with Tim at Dukes Meadows on our regular Saturday Par 3 tournament. Some of you will be aware that Tim died suddenly on the 5th of August.

We felt it would be appropriate for a few words to be said in recognition of a fellow Titan who loved playing with such a great bunch of people.

So, where to start? Well, I knew Tim since his son, Christopher went to the same school as my daughter some 23 years ago. He and his wife along with us and a few others spent many a happy(?) day camping with the kids and Tim was always the very happy fella who drank a lot and ate more than anyone else (how did he stay that thin?).

In later years, he could still drink with the best of us and always managed to eat more than us.

Tim was a specialist audio engineer, looking after recording decks for some of the biggest names around and some from the long distant past (anyone remember Joan Armatrading?).

What few knew was that Tim was  a recording artist in his own right. He had a studio in his house and wrote, played and sung an eclectic mix of music.

We will miss a titanic TITAN.

PS     The Titans have agreed to send a donation to one of Tim’s favoured charities –Ealing Music Therapy.

PPS   Fay has kindly proposed to sponsor The Tim Owen Cup for the individual who donates the most to our Par 3 charities over the past year - to be presented at the end of each Summer Par 3 tour.

Jane & Charles took the points . . .

. . . on a beautiful Autumn day. It could have been Summer as the sun shone with a light breeze and 10 of the 12 Titans prepared for the Autumn Super Titans at Pine Ridge tomorrow.

It was Jane and Charles who came through the field to take top honours, beating both of the current leaders.

Charles also took the birdie honours as he was the only one on the day to score a birdie.

Phil stopped him taking all the points with the only shot of the day to make the 9th green (the wind wasn't that strong was it?).

So suitably prepared, Pine Ridge beckons . . .
