Many claimed that his victory was down to his early arrival but IOC members pointed out that he was still 20 minutes late! Congratulations Andrew on a great victory.

Glory eventually comes to those that wait. Greg and Andrew thought that they were in competition for Magni after equally appalling starts to the round, and Andrew was still talking about it as they reached the turn however two 4 pointers in 5 holes on the back 9 shot him into contention. All rested on the testing 18th hole where he hit a powerful drive over the water but clipped the trees on the right. Great searching by colleagues unearthed the ball and he took a drop only to blast his next shot over the first tee box. His next found the green side bunker but somehow he managed to scramble the point needed to win his first tour event with 33 points.. Many claimed that his victory was down to his early arrival but IOC members pointed out that he was still 20 minutes late! Congratulations Andrew on a great victory. The weather was good but unfortunately the course conditions could not match that with the greens being slow and unpredictable. But that did not stop ex-capt Keith from posting a good 32pts to secure second place. Rob, Frank and Ben were next, all sharing 29 points. Richard secured his first ever tour winnings by picking up the 6th spot. The Minor prizes were won by Will (Magni and NP). Tour leader Tod (NP2), Ben (LD & £ and Pete (LD). Only Phil and Greg left empty handed.

It was a delight to visit one of the Titans favourite courses - Hoebridge golf course. Although this time it was a pretty small turnout of 8 committed Titans. The weather was a little chilly but the course was in great condition. The early leader was our inspirational leader who amassed 12 points in just 4 holes before suffering a crisis of confidence for some unknown reason and started to suffer from the putting yips, the chipping yips, and the driving yips. Consider this - at the par 3 12th hole the Prez won the NP prize but then walked off with a 4! However somehow he managed to scramble 27pts to gain 3rd place overall. Much of the pre-match talk was that our esteemed handicapper had not suffered a handicap cut in about 3 years. Greg defended himself by claims of injury and poor form but today he at last suffered from the handicappers scythe as he scored a creditable 30pts to secure 2nd place (and a cut) losing out on 1st place via countback. His fellow Titans were relieved that he has now joined the "Titans Handicap Moaners Club" Ben made it a hat-trick of wins by blasting his way around the course with a succession of high flying and powerfully hit draws from off the tee. His power play was amply demonstrated by his amazing display on the tricky NP2 14th hole. He absolutely smashed his towering drive massively left towards the OOB only to be saved by a massive draw which pulled it back down amongst the trees. Them he proceeded to smash his approach through the tree tops to land on the green leaving a trail of twigs, branches and leaves in his wake. Brilliant stuff. Will and Pete won the LD prizes and Greg completed his satisfying day by winning NP2 and the dosh.
Tod retains his lead at the head of the Champions Tour Leaderboard, closely followed by Pete and Prez. Ben has now moved into 4th. Fourteen of the Prez’s purple army mustered at Badgemore Park to complete for the much coveted Lancaster Bowl. Defending champion Wren looked forward to the upcoming battle of Badgemore as the contenders shaped up for the ‘Wrestle with Wren’. As it turned out an asian half Nelson (Jags) and a Boston Crab (Tod) were too much for Hulk Hogan and he finished a very respectable 3rd. Other notable results were posted by Keith (Kendo Nagasaki), Phil (Big Daddy - or is it Shirley Crabtree?) and Will (Gorgeous George). Of the 14 attendees, all received a prize. Richard (Mick McManus) received the guest prize, Twelve Titans received Titans dollars, and the unluckiest 13th person (Giant Haystacks) left with no money but had the company of Magni again. And Tod's fine performance means that he has knocked Pete D off top spot on the Titans leaderboard with Jags springing out of nowhere to enter the Top 10 at number 5. (Ed - very TOTP there?). The course was in great condition with the greens being fast (very fast!) and true. Anyone pitching on the green (Ed - pretty unlikely isn't it?) went over the back (or side for some!). The weather was fair but the trees played havoc with otherwise good drives from the Titans pros. Consider the evidence:
And there were reports of an otherwise "Nice Chap" cussing and exploding after a series of shanks. No Titans were prepared to report the incidents to the Titans Fair Play Committee but the ex Foreign Secretary and MP Dustin Johnson has used Parlimentary privilege to out a Mr Graham Nash as the guilty party. |
