Titans elect Schick as Wind God

31/3/2015

The Weather God was sorely missed at a gale and wind swept Merrist Wood on Sunday. Have we finally sussed that he only chooses to play when the weather is predicted to be good?

So the brave glorious few strode off onto the Merrist battleground - two steps forward then one or two back.

With a mighty swish of the driver the balls sailed off into a headwind - never to be seen again. Reload. Repeat for the next 6 holes.

Reputations were severely damaged. Tour leader McErlean equalled his career worst score with the Titans. Expensive golf kit was stewn across the course.

Andre has had enough torture and takes a rest.
However one person soared in the Merrist winds and his name is Phil Schick. He is the Wind God. 31 points in such dreadful weather was an Titanic effort.

Captain James "T" McIntyre congratulates the Wind God.

There was a special prize at the 12th celebrating Ireland's 6 Nations Rugby triumph. Vice President Alan Lee kindly donated a bottle of Jamesons to the winner and to make sure he kept it he chose one of the most difficult NP2's on tour (what's new said the Prez) on one of the windiest days in Titans history. But one man rose to the challenge. Well done Pat Carr.

Picture
26 points secured second, third and fourth places for Pat C, Tod L, and Philip C, Will S was 5th with 25 and the Prez 6th with 24 puts. Captain James took the NP and the long drive (0-19) was won by Sam Dunkley. Philip C had a good drive in the higher handicap category but evil Greg adjudged it to be off the fairway. Close but not close enough .

Finally the guest prize was won by the impressive John Limpus with a very creditable 19 points. The average score on a tough day was a measly 20 points!!  Pass the whisky around Pat!!

SPRING HAS SPRUNG and it was the end of the Par 3 Winter Tour . . .

On the day, Fay and Pat took the honours with wins and Best Gross scores on the last 3-club competition of the Winter Tour.

But neither took the minor prizes; Keith taking the NP2 on the 6th with a T shot to within two feet of the flag) and Phil S the NP on the 9th (only person to stick on the green)

Except for the Ladies, the results of the Winter Tour were only decided on the last day.

Rita was the run-away winner of the Ladies Tour with all the other Ladies left trailing. The Ladies NP was also Rita's but had to be shared with Nina.

Keith's NP2 on the last day forced a shared win with THE PREZ for the Men's Tour and the NP prize was subject to a play-off thanks to Phil's NP on the day. In true Titans spirit, Frank was lent his challenger's 7-iron for the final winning shot - NP prize to THE PREZ!

Bakali crowned King at Kingswood

Globetrotting business guru Ally Bakali jetted in from his winter training camp to a somewhat damp and chilly day at Kingswood. The course was  tight  with slick greens.

But this was just what he trained for all winter and despite the usual tirade of racist abuse he prevailed with the customary mix of power golf (three birdies) and incessant chatter.

Ally scored 32 points, Keith came second with 30 pts and Phil trailed in a creditable third with 29pts.

Charles was NP, Ally and Phil picked up the longest drives  but the Titans struggled on NP2 and the money hole for the second game in a row. We are all looking forward to the £50m rollover at Merrist Wood!

4 Blob Bell wins easy

It was a good round from Nick Bell (33 points) in difficult blustery conditions but what could it have been if he hadn't blobbed four times? New Titans handicapper (Slasher Smith) will certainly be taking an interest.

But what were the other Titans has-beens doing? Pine Ridge champion McErlean was slapping the ball everywhere, and only managed to get second place with a solid putting performance. The opening group was obviously oblivious to the poor performances in the later groups with Tod clinching third with 29 points. Phil Schick then Alan Lee trailed in with 26 points and Philip Campbell got the last of the money with 24 points.

However the true shocking statistics was that none of the Titans could hit the par 3 holes for the NP and Money prizes!  20 shots and no hits!  Some pride was salvaged as Sam and Tod picked up long drive prizes and Nick got NP2.

Lets hope that the Titans get it together for Kingwood in 2 weeks time.
