Yes - Martin Wyn Griffith did his customary Titans Major ram-raid by flying in on his Learjet, direct from one weeks intensive preparation at the Butch Harmon School of Golf in Florida. Never in the history of the Titans has £10k been spent so productively as he went on to shoot 31 points to win his second major of the year.
So it was tragedy for Sam but delight for Alan Lee who must have been worrying that his 22 points would lose him the Titans crown he has threatened to win for many years. But it was not to be - he was not to be denied. Congratulations to Alan. 2016 Tour Champion.
And what of "Second Place Phil" I hear you say? Yes he was in second place overall but plummeted down the list (to 3rd!) after a spectacular 20 points was amassed. Nevertheless he did manage to have two good shots in the round winning longest drive and a bottle of champagne on the 16th!
Disappointed Sam won NP and the Prez won NP2 (presumably no presidential moans about selection of that one!). Last years champion Tod did not have such a stellar year this year but did manage to salvage some pride by winning the last LD of the year.
Charitable Pat Carr (so named originally because he gives so many shots back to the course) gave back his £20 winnings on the Money Hole to go £10 to each of the Par 3 charities - The Upper Room and the RNLI. Charitable in so many ways. That lad has Titans spirit oozing out of him!
What a great year it has been:
- Tod Lockard captained us superbly throughout the year and ever introduced us to Donald Trump on Captains Day. And on that famous day we were introduced to those famous stars and stripes shorts. Many of you will probably be thinking "thank goodness I'll never see those shorts again". If you are thinking this then the Chiswick Police would like to speak to you because they were stolen from Tod's car last week. Police are also looking for 124 lost golf balls, three Titans trophies and that long lost swing.
- The IOC exuded IOCness throughout the year and served up a fantastic championship with magnificent new courses. They also managed to pick up the tour championship, 4 individual tour events and one major - there is life in the old boys yet.
- The Rest of the World team slaughtered the English team (again)
- And finally - Harleyford just missed out on the inaugural "Titans Bacon Buttie of the Year" award with a disappointing final round and the 2016 award goes to the Shire.
