2020 Mens Handicaps

A new handicapping system was adopted for 2017 which sought to bring more equality to scoring. The system was considered to be successful and was repeated for 2018. It has been decided to retain it also for 2019 with some minor tweaks which are highlighted in RED below:
More details are available from Phil Schick.
- Upper handicap is 22.
- For competition purposes Handicaps will be rounded up. So if you have a handicap of 12.5 it will be rounded up to 13
- The penalty for winning will be an additional 1 shot cut. A 2nd place cut of 0.5 shot has also been introduced. At the end of the year all of these additional cuts will be added back to your handicap. So if you have picked up an additional 2 shots cut during the year with one win and two second places, then at the end of the year these additional 1st and 2nd place cuts will be added back in full to your handicap. In this way we share around the pain of being at the top of the table in a competition, but that pain does not last more than the current year. Cuts of this sort incurred in 2018 will be added back before the 2019 season begins. Cuts on observation would not be affected. Those are permanent.
- It is also possible that any player can be cut "on observation" but this is a rare occurrence.
